blog Daydreaming about 3D Printing

3D Printing is still somewhat magical. Several years ago, a friend gave me a ender3 that they were not using, and I have been using that for a few small projects, but it is an old printer so it is not always reliable.

Recently I have been considering 3D printing some more, and would really like to get a newer one. Not unexpectedly, my recent youtube recommendations and now subscriptions have included quite a lot of 3D Printing, such as channels like Print Farm Academy or Macy Makes talking about creating 3D printing businesses or Hands on Katie showing all kinds of things that she makes with 3D printing.

A somewhat interesting one has been the Slant3D channel talking about On Demand Printing. I quite like the idea of there being a factory you can send your design to, and they take care of the printing and shipping. I wish there was something like that in Japan I could use.

I am not sure I would be the right person to build that kind of business in Japan, but I do wish it existed.

For myself, I like the idea of supporting a company like Prusa but it seems like they kinda took a break, while other companies overtook them. Currently, I am considering something like Bambu Lab’s A1 or P1P . I imagine I am mostly going to print something like PLA or PETG that does not require enclosure, so something like the A1 could be sufficient. Though at the same time the “just in case” part of me is thinking about the P1P where the enclosure also helps keep up dust and other things.

If I was to pick up a new 3D printer, I think I would initially use it to print some Gridfinity and perhaps try out the underware system for cable management. After that, who knows what other kinds of things I might try.
