While USB-C mostly defines just the physical connector, the increase in Power Delivery options makes it a more appealing option for all kinds of devices. In some ways, I am lucky as an American than lives in Japan, most devices use the same plugs, and I do not do so much traveling as to need all kinds of adapters. That said, it is still somewhat annoying (first world problems) to have many different power bricks and large plugs on my desk. Is it yet feasible to move more small devices to USB-C and ditch all these power bricks ?
Adafruit has options for things like C to Barrel Cable and C to Barrel Adapter that could in theory, replace some of the power bricks for things like my modem, router, and other small devices. I already have a small Air duster that charges over USB-C and I have been interested in something like PINECIL to have a newer soldering iron that is USB-C. What other kinds of random, small electronics could also be found? It seems like most of the pieces are all there, to switch to USB-C but transitions take time. I suppose for the manufacturer, the existing power bricks are cheaper and simpler to manufacture since they are old technology and most power delivery bricks are more expensive. Also, customers are likely to complain if too many devices ship that require them to also buy a separate adapter if they do not already have one. Still, I naively look forward to a future where I can clean up a few more cables from my desk.
